Outdoor Ed. Update Wed @ 2:00

I visited the 5th graders today at the beach.  They are having a great time and today was another example of learning by doing.  The "beach" component of the trip allows them to study different ecosystems including the beach and marsh environment.  They were in groups that participated in various activities focused on wildlife, plants, and the differences between environments.  Here are some pictures of the activity.

Preparing for Outdoor Ed. (Updated at 7:00 pm)

I spoke with Ms. Schwarzbach at about 10:20 and they were about 15 minutes from camp.  Because of the location cell reception is very poor so she will call when she gets a signal or when she can use the camp phone.  I'll update the post when she calls.  This is the first that many of our 5th grade students are staying away from home at camp. This mornings send off was both exciting and a little nerve racking for both parents and students as they got ready to board the bus and drive to camp.  Here are some pictures from this morning.

I spoke with Ms. Schwarzbach at 7:00 pm and she said they arrived fine and all of the students are having a great time.  They will be going on a night hike and preparing for their first night in camp.  I wanted to remind parents if you have a letter to be delivered to your child for Wednesday make sure you have it to me no later than 3:00 pm tomorrow.

Western Spirit Day

Friday was Spirit Day at Rollingwood.  The theme was Cowboys and Cowgirls.  We had many students participate dressing in western wear.  Ms. Stachnick's class won the spirit stick with the highest percentage of students participating.  Ms. Green brought an added dimension to our day with teaching students how to line dance.

Fire Poster Assembly and Winners

We had Fire Captain Jim Allen to present our Fire Poster winners and discuss fire safety with our students.  He reminded them of how they can protect themselves from fire and good practices in preparation for any fire emergency.  The culmination of the assembly was the presentation of the Fire Poster awards.  We had students from each class win  awards and receive ribbons.  Here are pictures of the ceremony and the winning posters.
